Kildare County Council Decade of Commemorations Committee to launch ‘Rebel Hearts’
A biographical list of republican women activists in Co. Kildare 1913-1923 by Karel Kiely
Kildare County Council’s Decade of Commemorations Committee is pleased to announce the launch of Rebel Hearts. A biographical list of republican women activists in Co. Kildare 1913-1923 by Karel Kiely will take place in Naas Library and Cultural Centre on 15 February at 7.00 p.m.
All are welcome to the launch to mark the contribution of Kildare women in the revolutionary period. This publication lists the known women activists of County Kildare during the 1913-1923 period with biographical information compiled from pension and medal applications; witness statements; birth, death, and marriage records; census records; arrest reports; newspaper obituaries; family information and photographs. The book was funded as part of the Co. Kildare Decade of Commemorations programme for 2023. The Committee aimed to create a legacy of research and material for future generations. It was supported by Kildare County Council, Kildare Library and Arts Service, and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media under the Decade of Centenaries 2013-23 initiative.
Free copies of the book will be available at the launch. It will also be available in Kildare Library Service branches, on its website and via the BorrowBox app.
