Kildare County Council begins Public Lighting Energy Efficient Project
22 February 2024: Kildare County Council is delighted to confirm that phase 1 of a countywide Public Lighting Upgrade programme will begin this week with countywide survey of assets commencing in Athy Municipal District. Following the completion of the field survey the replacement of less energy efficient public street lighting will commence later this year.
There are approximately 23,000 public lights across the county, all of which will be surveyed as part of the project. The Public Lighting Upgrade programme will take place across 4 phases – Survey, Design, Testing and Retrofit replacement of non-LED public lighting with LED upgrade.
Killaree Lighting Services have been appointed to undertake and deliver the Public Lighting upgrade works in Kildare along with 8 other counties. Beginning this week, phase 1 of the project will involve the survey programme, where the team will access the columns and network poles which have public lights, visually inspect them and gather inventory data while also surveying the condition of the assets.
This will be carried out on a phased basis across each of the Municipal Districts and there will not be any traffic disruption during this stage. Temporary Traffic Management will be programmed at a later stage after survey completion, in some areas, if required, and the public will be notified in advance.
