Following a 2-year, consultation and refurbishment programme, the new dedicated community space in Prosperous opened in June 2023 and since then, has been an important community space, being used for many purposes, including training, health & wellbeing programmes, community events as well as being used as a space to cook meals on a weekly basis as part of the age friendly initiative which deliver meals to people in the estate.
Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Daragh Fitzpatrick was on hand to cut the ribbon for the official opening, joined on the day by Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Kildare County Council, Directors of Service for Housing and Community directorates in Kildare County Council along with local TDs and members of the local community.
Speaking at the official opening, Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Daragh Fitzpatrick said; “the official opening of Anne Street Community house is a very special day for the people of this area and I’m delighted to be here to mark this fantastic milestone. This dedicated community house is a first for Kildare, and something we hope can be replicated across the county. At MD and Full Council for a number of years, we’ve had discussions and motions about how to address anti-social behaviour, we can already see the positive impact that resources like Anne Street have on addressing these challenges.”
There are plan for further development of the community centre including the provision of a storage shed, outdoor gym equipment and the delivery of a 10-week health and wellbeing programme in 2024, following successful grant and funding applications.
