Six volumes of The Journal of the County Kildare Archaeological Society available online
The County Kildare Archaeological Society and Kildare Library Service are pleased to announce that six further volumes of the Journal of the County Kildare Archaeological Society have been digitised and made available for free through the Local Studies pages of the Kildare Library Service website. They can be accessed online via - https://kildarecoco.ie/library/KildareCountyArchivesandLocalStudies/LocalStudies/
The addition of these six volumes means that the first twenty-three volumes of the Journal of the County Kildare Archaeological Society, from volume one in 1891 to volume twenty-three published in 2019, are now available on an open access basis and fully searchable.
First published in 1891, the Journals of the County Kildare Archaeological Society are an essential resource for anyone interested in the archaeology, heritage, history and culture of County Kildare and surrounding districts. Topics included in the newly added volumes include articles on the great Famine in the Castledermot area, the evolution of Naas Courthouse, the Quakers of South Kildare, the break-up of the Leinster Estate and a study of the Wonderful Barn and Barnhall.
Hard copies of all published journals can also be consulted at the recently opened Kildare County Archives and Local Studies research space at Harbour View, Naas. Further information on the County Kildare Archaeological Society, including their 2024 programme of events, is available on their website www.kildarearchsoc.ie
