Kildare County Council announces events for National Bike Week 2023
Events taking place from the 13th to 21st May 2023
Bike Week is a celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling including the opportunity for physical exercise, enjoying our local heritage and contributing towards sustainable transport.
Kildare County Council in collaboration with the National Transport Authority have organized a variety of events to be held throughout County Kildare during Bike Week 2023.
The proposed cycle events, which all are welcome to attend, are listed below.
Saturday 13 May
Athy Family Cycle Event : 1.00 pm-3.00 pm
(Athy Sport Hub via the Canal Road to Vicarstown Bridge north of Athy & return)
Sunday 14 May
Naas Family Cycle Event : 10.00 am-12.00 pm
(Naas Town Centre via the Canal Road to Sallins Bypass to Sallins and return).
Maynooth Family Cycle Event : 1.00 pm-3.00 pm
(Maynooth at entrance to Royal Canal Greenway via the Greenway to choice of return points, including Kilcock, Enfield or Moyvalley and return)
Cycling Exhibitions
Cycling exhibitions are being held in 3 of the County Libraries and will display exhibitions on cycling history from the original ‘running bike’ to modern bicycles.
How cycling enabled different social groups to be recognised for their achievements in the 19th century: the specialist military bicycles used by the Allied Armies in World War Two and cycling during the Cold War between East and West, and the ‘Peace Races’ and modern cycling competition including professional and Olympic cycling.

Monasterevin Family Cycle Event : 10.00 am- 1.00 pm
(Monasterevin Community Centre via the R414 Rathangan Road to choice of return points including Mountrice Cross or Rathangan and return).
Sunday 21 May
Newbridge Family Cycle Event : 10.00am-12.00 pm
(Cycle route currently being finalised, updates available by emailing Activetravel@kildarecoco.ie ).
Kildare Family Cycle Event : 2.00pm- 4.00 pm
(Cycle route currently being finalised, updates available by emailing Activetravel@kildarecoco.ie ).
Refreshment tokens for local outlets will be provided at the Family Cycle events for cyclists who have registered in advance by emailing Activetravel@kildarecoco.ie
Kildare County Council staff will be in attendance at all the Family Cycle Events.
