Kildare County Council to host 7th Irish Military Seminar
Events taking place from 19th – 20th May 2023
The Kildare County Council Decade of Commemorations Committee is pleased to announce that the 7th Irish Military Seminar is taking place in Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th May 2023.
The Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Fintan Brett, will open the Seminar on the Friday evening at a special event featuring former RTÉ Security Correspondent Tom McCaughren on The Peacemakers of Niemba.
This Friday evenings event, attended by many serving and past members of the Defence Forces, usually sells out so tickets (free) should be booked in advance via www.riverbank.ie or by phoning 045448327.
The Friday evening event will also see the launch of a unique biographical dictionary of Co. Kildare men, women and children who took part in the fight for Ireland’s freedom in the revolutionary decade. ‘Stand you now for Ireland’s Cause’ A biographical dictionary of County Kildare republican activists 1913-23 by historian James Durney will be launched at 7pm. All are welcome to the launch.
The Saturday line-up features an exciting and varied programme of speakers and topics again this year, including talks on the Spanish Armada, the Irish Brigade at Monte Cassino, the War of Independence, the Niemba Ambush & a keynote address by Dr Síobhra Aiken titled Breaking The Silence: Writing the Civil War.
