Kildare County Council appoints new Cathaoirleach & Leas Cathaoirleach
New Green Party Councillor Co-Opted to Kildare County Council
Friday 23rd June 2023: Elected members of Kildare County Council today appointed Councillor Darragh Fitzpatrick and Councillor Tracey O Dwyer as Cathaoirleach and Leas Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare respectively, at the Annual meeting of the County Council which took place in the Council Chamber, Aras Chill Dara.
The new appointees will succeed the outgoing Cathaoirleach and Leas Cathaoirleach Councillor Fintan Brett and Councillor Joe Neville, following their term.
Cllr Darragh Fitzpatrick and Cllr Tracey O Dwyer were presented with the chain of office at today’s meeting and will serve as Cathaoirleach and Leas Cathaoirleach for 1 year, effective immediately following today’s meeting.
The appointment of new Cathaoirligh, Leas Cathaoirligh, Mayors and Deputy Mayors for the five Municipal District Committees in Kildare will be made at each of the respective Municipal District meetings in July.
A special meeting of Kildare County Council was also held prior to the Annual Meeting, where Green Party member, Mr Bob Quinn was co-opted to the Council following the recent resignation of Councillor Colm Kenny.
