Key public safety messages for Cold Weather Period
Kildare County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team met again today Tuesday January 7th to continue to monitor conditions and respond to events in light of the ongoing and forecasted weather conditions.
An Orange Weather Warning will come into effect for County Kildare from 5pm this evening, Tuesday 7th January, with extreme cold, widespread severe frost, ice and lying snow. This weather warning will remain in place until 10am tomorrow, Wednesday 8th January.
A further Orange Level Warning is in place from 6pm tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8th until 11am on Thursday, January 9th, again for extreme cold with widespread severe frost, ice and lying snow.
The public is advised to monitor Met Éireann forecasts and/or visit https://www.met.ie/ for the most up to date information. Information is also available across social media platforms and other news media sources.
Kildare County Council will continue to monitor the situation. The Council’s Winter Maintenance Plan continues to operate, with the objective of keeping all principal routes open to traffic, free from ice and safe to travel on. Kildare County Council will continue to undertake salt runs both during the day and at night. However, extreme caution is advised when travelling due to potentially hazardous driving conditions, including ice, black ice and potentially freezing fog, depending on local temperatures.
