Updated information: Key public safety messages for Cold Weather Period
5th January 2024: In light of the ongoing and forecasted weather conditions, Kildare County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team met again today Sunday, 5th January to continue to monitor conditions and respond to events.
The yellow weather warning remains in place for County Kildare with falls of sleet and snow, and snowfall accumulations possible, today Sunday January 5.
However, with many bordering counties at an Orange Level Warning, the public are advised to monitor Met Éireann forecasts and/or visit https://www.met.ie/ for the most up to date information. Information is available across social media platforms and other news media sources.
Kildare County Council will continue to monitor the situation.
Kildare County Council’s Winter Maintenance Plan continues to operate, with the objective of keeping all principal routes open to traffic, free from ice and safe to travel on. See: https://kildarecoco.ie/AllServices/Transport/WinterMaintenancePlan.
At present this involves both daytime and nighttime operations by Council teams.
In light of continued Met Éireann forecasts for low temperatures up to and including Thursday 9 January, Kildare County Council is advising extreme caution when travelling and making journeys due to potentially hazardous driving conditions from combinations of ice, black ice and surface water depending on local temperatures.
The key public safety messages published on 3rd of January, available below, remain relevant.
