Change of Owner or Tenant

Tenant Obligations

Under Section 32 of the Local Government Reform Act 2014, outgoing tenants are required to discharge all rates liability prior to leaving the property.

Landlord Obligations

Under Section 32 of the Local Government Reform Act 2014, a landlord is required to notify Kildare County Council in writing of:

  • A change of owner
  • A change in tenancy
  • When a property becomes vacant.

 

Notification must be given within 14 days of the date of transfer.  Failure to inform Kildare County Council may result in a penalty being issued, equivalent to years’ rates.

When selling a property, a landlord also must discharge all rates liability prior to the sale.  Any rates unpaid will remain a charge on the property.
