National Heritage Week 2026
National Heritage Week opens a window to a wide range of heritage sites and activities across Kildare.
With the theme this year being Heritage at Risk, this is an opportunity to explore the issue of risk to our shared heritage. From historic buildings that require significant conservation work to wildlife habitats at risk from development pressures and climate change, a lot of the events highlight these challenges. In many cases, works are ongoing to reduce the risk to these sites so it is a great opportunity to see what practical heritage conservation work looks like.
In addition to this printed guide (see below), other events are being added to the heritageweek.ie website- this is a great resource that allows you to plan what events you would like to attend by theme, date and location.
2026 Events | National Heritage Week 15th – 23rd August 2026
Kildare County Council would like to thank all the event organisers for participating in National Heritage Week- in some cases this involves literally opening up their homes to the public or sharing memorabilia from the past, in other cases demonstrating craft or musical skills- there would be no heritage week without them and it is really appreciated.
