Scheme for the Funding of Improvement Works on Private Roads

Kildare County Council (KCC) invite applications for funding under the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS). The LIS is a scheme to support the improvement of small non-public rural roads not normally maintained by KCC. 

As the guidelines stand, only one parcel of land serviced by the road needs to be engaged in agricultural activities.  In addition, amenity roads leading to important community amenities such as graveyards and tourist attractions are also eligible.   

All applications must meet the guidelines and conditions set out by the Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD). If any changes are made to the guidelines, as available, all applicants will be made aware. A local contribution is required per application, and the DRCD will provide balance of funding.

To be considered for funding, you must assess your eligibility by reading the guidelines as set out by KCC who administer the scheme.  All applications for consideration under the 2026 funding allocation must be submitted to KCC no later than Friday 13 March 2026.
