Kildare Local Studies holds an extensive collection of books and other publications relating to Ireland in general, with a particular focus on material related to County Kildare. All titles can be consulted by prior appointment in our premises at Harbour View, Naas.

The Kildare Collection

Kildare Local Studies actively collects and seeks donations of any publication relating to County Kildare. We hold an extensive Kildare collection of books and published material in our current location at the Harbour View, Naas. Archaeology, Architecture, Biography, Folklore, History, Literature, Local History publications and Sport are among the topics covered. The majority of titles have now been added to our library catalogue

 

Irish Books Collection

There is also a very large collection of books of national interest in the Kildare Local Studies collections. Publications on the military, political and socio-economic history of Ireland form the majority of the collection. The collection also covers a broad range of other topics including archaeology, art, biography, culture, geography, literature, religion, sport, transport, travel along with guides to further research. The Irish Books Collection is now fully searchable through the library catalogue.

 

Rare Books (Pre-1850)

Kildare Local Studies includes a significant collection of publications that date from before 1850. These rare books cover a range of topics include travel memoirs, religious tracts, military accounts and contemporary descriptions of County Kildare and Ireland that were published prior to 1850. The Local Studies Librarian is currently adding this collection to the library catalogue.

 

Family History Titles & Directories

A selection of trade and street directories, including many volumes of Thom’s Directory, are available to consult in Kildare Local Studies. The collection also includes a significant collection of family history publications and genealogies. There are also some other publications that will be of interest to those undertaking family history research, including graveyard transcriptions and reports.

 

Official Publications

Kildare Local Studies holds many official publications, including Government reports, in its collections. Census reports, Oireachtas reports and local government publications all feature.
