Kildare Local Studies holds an extensive collection of books and other publications relating to Ireland in general, with a particular focus on material related to County Kildare. All titles can be consulted by prior appointment in our premises at Harbour View, Naas.

The Kildare Collection

Kildare Local Studies actively collects and seeks donations of any publication relating to County Kildare. There is an extensive Kildare collection of books and published material with archaeology, architecture, biography, folklore, history, literature, local and family history and sport are among the topics covered. The collection can be searched via the library catalogue

Irish Books Collection

The collection also includes books of national interest with publications on the military, political and socio-economic history of Ireland. These cover a broad range of subjects including archaeology, art, biography, culture, geography, literature, religion, sport, transport, and travel along with guides to further research. The Irish Books collection is searchable through the library catalogue.

Rare Books (pre-1850)

There is a significant collection of publications that date from before 1850. These rare books cover a range of topics include travel memoirs, religious tracts, military accounts and contemporary descriptions of County Kildare and Ireland published prior to 1850. 

Family History Titles and Directories

A selection of trade and street directories, including many volumes of Thom’s Directory, are available to consult in Kildare Local Studies. The collection also includes a significant collection of family history publications and genealogies. There are also publications that will be of interest to those undertaking family history research including graveyard transcriptions and reports.

Kildare Local Studies holds many official publications, including Government reports, census reports, and local government publications.
