County Kildare has been officially twinned with Lexington, Kentucky, USA since 1984. This long-standing partnership focuses on cultural exchange, education, and community development.
Key Highlights of the Twinning:
Student Exchange Programme: Each year, second-level students from Kildare and Lexington participate in a summer exchange, staying with host families and engaging in cultural activities.
Recent Activities (2025):
Kildare students visited Lexington for the 4th of July celebrations, met the Mayor of Lexington, and toured local landmarks.
Lexington students visited Kildare, including stops at the Irish National Stud, Japanese Gardens, and kayaking on the River Barrow in Athy.
